Ninth Graduation Ceremony - AUGUST 2, 2008
Chennai, 2nd August 2008 - T.S. Srinivasan
Centre for Vocational and Advanced Training (CVAT),
held its Ninth Graduation Ceremony on Saturday,
2nd August 2008. CVAT was set up in 1997 by TVS
Educational Society with the support of some of
the leading members of the TVS Industrial house.
The primary objective of CVAT is to develop
competent qualitative trainees who will meet
global standards of excellence.
Training Programs
CVAT offers a 3 ½ years Engineering Diploma
Program in the following fields –
Electrical-Electronics, Mechatronics and
Mechanical Engineering. The present and past
graduates of CVAT have been placed in some of
the best industries in the region – Sundaram
Clayton, Wheels India, Lucas TVS, Sundram
Fastners, Motorola, Fisher Sanmar, Kone
Elevators, Hyundai, Nokia and Rane Group of
Companies. This is the best validation for the
excellent training that the students have
received in CVAT.
The Center also offers skill upgradation
programs for in-service Industrial personnel.
These programs cover a wide range of technical
competencies, from basic technical skills, to
complex skills in CNC, PLC, Advanced Pneumatics,
and Advanced Hydraulics. Last year alone, the
Centre has trained more than 1500 personnel from
well-known Companies, such as, Ashok Leyland,
Delphi TVS, Lucas TVS, Mando Brakes, Nokia, Rane
Group, Sanmar Group, Sundaram Clayton, Visteon
and Wheels India.
Graduation 2008
94 students were awarded the CVAT Diploma at the
graduation function. The Chief Guest, Shri. E.K.
Parthasarathy, M.D. of Madras Engineering
Industries (P) Ltd., in his address told the
graduating students that they were at the
commencement of their lives. He reminded them
that knowledge of skills was very important as
otherwise they may be lost as we have lost the
building and sculptural skills of the temples of
old. He said that they needed to remember that
focus and concentration are two qualities that
will help them progress in life.
The Special Guest, Dr. C. Chandramouli, IAS,
Secretary, Information Technology and Chairman
Electronics Corporation Govt. of Tamilnadu, in
his speech said that the reason why
multinational companies wished to set up shop in
India especially Chennai was not so much because
the cost of production was cheaper than in China
but it was the presence of a large skilled work
force that was also efficient in the use of time
and materials.
He also mentioned that the Government of
Tamilnadu hoped to generate lakhs of jobs by
2011. He felt that this may not be very
difficult as Tamilnadu alone was producing one
lakh engineers every year. Another lakh passed
out of ITI’s and Polytechnics. Many institutions
of quality were also being set up. These will
help in adding to the efficient work force in
Tamilnadu. He also advised the students to
continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge.
The Director Dr.Malini Srinivasan appreciated
the graduating students for their performance.
N. Murugan, N. Sriram, V. Karthik were adjudged
to be the best outgoing students in their
respective disciplines. They received The Sri
T.S.Srinivasan Award for Excellence.
Mr.K. Balakrishnan, a Member of the CVAT
